Earlier today, event organizers for the annual Game Developers Conference announced next year’s conference will be an in-person event.
According to Informa Tech, GDC 2022 will return March 21 through March 25, 2022 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Those wishing to make submissions to present lectures, roundtables, and panels for the Core Concepts section of GDC 2022 can do so from August 3 through August 31.
There was no mention in the announcement of a virtual element to GDC 2022. There was also no mention of any safety guidelines the event will have, though that’s likely due to the event taking place eight months from now.
Although it’s not well-known to the masses, GDC is an important event for the video game industry. The event brings together developers, executives, and everyone in between from around the world for a few days in one location.
GDC 2020 was cancelled altogether due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although GDC 2021 was originally announced as a hybrid event, it ultimately went completely virtual.
GDC 2021 started today and goes through July 23. Some notable talks and presentations include Epic Games’ latest tech demo for its Unreal Engine 5 game engine, independent game development and self-care, and talks on free-to-play mechanics.
